The 9th annual Gourmets and Gourmands championed by Hartmans on behalf of Carpe Diem School will be a stylish French affair.  Ernest Hemingway so eloquently put it "If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast." And what a feast this year’s event will be with local artist, René Scribante, adding to the ambience by donating a masterpiece she especially painted for the event.

René Scribante was a gifted student who later qualified as a Radiographer, specialising in Cardiac Imaging, Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).  During 1993 she started channelling her artistic side and qualified as an Interior Decorator with Gold Honours.  And from then on, as they say, the rest was history.  In January 2002 René started with art classes with Liz Stumke in Wilderness, and she helped René to discover and develop her style of painting.

René unleashed her passion for painting and soon it was clear that she is a truly gifted artist.  In December 2009 she had her first exhibition at “The Attic” with the Wilderness Art Group and in 2010 started her permanent exhibition at “The Attic”.  In October 2010 she had her first public solo exhibition.  In 2016 Rene Scribante opened an art gallery in the heart of Oudtshoorn, with Tersia Hoffman; and Esther Zonnenstein.  Rene’s French country scenes are much loved, and more recently beautiful African architectural heritage homes.

René’s interpretation of one of Claude Monet’s works will be put up for auction during the event.  The funds raised at Gourmets and Gourmands championed by Hartmans will be allocated to the special needs learners of Carpe Diem School.  Carpe Diem School helps children from all over the Southern Cape and the school is undoubtedly an integral part of the Garden Route and Karoo communities.
